As the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity begins, I re-post a photo of last week’s enrollment of oblates at St. John’s. So far, eighteen oblates have been enrolled. These new oblate candidates reside in Georgia, New Jersey, Texas, California, British Columbia, and here in Minnesota and North Dakota. Two of the oblate candidates pictured here are Anglicans, one is Bishop Michael Smith, the bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of North Dakota. The other is Fr. Stephen Hilgendorf, rector of St. Dunstan’s Anglican Church in the Twin Cities.
By means of Anglicanorum coetibus, the Catholic Church has provided a splendid opportunity to build on the basis of a shared liturgical spirituality. The more I reflect on it, the more deeply I appreciate how magnificent an opportunity this is.
