Sharing a couple of photos from Bishop Michael Smith’s recent pilgrimage to England, which included a trip to St. Paul’s, Jarrow.
Modern Jarrow is an industrial suburb of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. So, coming upon St. Paul’s CofE Church, tucked away between a terminal (for shipping from the Tyne River) and a Department of Transport facility is like walking through a time warp. But once there, the history is in the stones themselves. The chancel of the church was, I’ve been told, a chapel in Bede’s day.
